A Scrap Around The World Tutorial

Hello there! I'm very excited to be sharing with you my photo tutorial in our Design Team 'Moment To Shine' series at Scrap Around The World. I used our current challenge here as my inspiration.

Here's the mood board:

I was inspired firstly by those pink steps in the mood board. They immediately reminded me of the gorgeous steps everywhere on the Greek Islands &, as I have a gazillion photos of these places, I thought it was a great opportunity to scrap them. I was also inspired by the amazing blues in the flower pic.

Here's what I made:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Stamp a few background stamps onto a good quality cardstock, using StazOn ink so it won't run when water is applied. Draw a few rough circles with pencil.

2. Paint inside the circles with the Silks. Add a little water to the Silks first for a more transparent look & easier application.

3. Spray a very light spray of water over the area you want to colour. Take pinches of Magicals (use gloves if you don't want to stain your hands) & sprinkle them across the wet parts of the page. Spray another very light spray on top of the Magicals. The areas coloured with Silks will slightly repel the water & Magicals, letting the circles show through.

4. Stamp a small flourish onto a few places on the background with embossing ink & apply silver Metallic Melts. Heat to set.

5.If your background has buckled, place it under a heavy weight to flatten it while you
work on the embellishments. Paint the Dusty Attic chipboard flourish with gesso & let dry.

6. Paint the Dusty Attic chipboard title with gesso then paint or ink the top half with blue. Add blue Metallic Melts to the top half only and heat to set.

7. Drop silver and blue metallic threads across the page and glue down the photo, title and chipboard flourish. These will anchor the thread in place.

8. Add a variety of blue and silver bling, write in your journalling and ink the edges of the page with blue ink. Your layout is done!

The more water you use, the more the Magicals will blend together. Try varying the amount of water you use on different areas for interesting effects.

Small details like bling & Metallic Melts can make such a big impact.

On a busy or eye-catching background, you sometimes don't need too many embellishments. A gorgeous flourish & title are all that's needed on this layout.

Scrappy Chat Designs teams up with Kraft+!

Hello there! Today I'd like to share with you a layout I made using the gorgeous "Favourite Little Something" Kit from Scrappy Chat Designs. Scrappy Chat Designs is a sponsor over at Kraft + this month so I'm entering the challenge with this one too.

Here's the Kraft + inspirational photo. You also need to add yellow paint.

And here's what I made using this month's Scrappy Chat Designs kit:

I was inspired by the many vertical lines and the textural feel in the Kraft+ photo.

As usual, there are exciting and fabulous products in the Scrappy Chat Designs kit. Apart from the Kaisercraft and Prima papers, there are cardstock, straws, twine, Stampendous Lux Flakes and, my favourite, Faber-Castell Texture Luxe. This product is amazing! The gold is so intense yet still holds it's shape and body so well.

I added some yellow enamel dots from a previous kit and outlined them in black pen. If you don't have any enamel dots just paint some paper with yellow paint, punch out some circles and add Glossy Accents on top. Easy peasy!

A 7 Dots Challenge

Hello again. I don't know how I've done it but I somehow managed to find time to enter a challenge! I've been busting to give the 7 Dots challenge a go for ages and I've finally done it!

The challenge this month is to use the phrase 'Time Flies" as your inspiration. You can find the challenge here. Here's the Inspirational Circle:

And here's what I created:

I've gone for a funky look on this one using papers from the Destination Unknown and Thoughts Keeper ranges.  The page is about how my daughter keeps changing her hair colour. To me, it shows how fast time is flying when she seems to have a different hair colour every time I see her. The journalling reads, "....Time flies.... So many hair colour options, so little time....Time flies...."

I have been collecting bar code strips from 7 Dots papers for a while and had fun using them on this page. I cut out the colourful dots and formed a row of them which I added under a punched edge to give my page a lift. On the far left, I used a whole strip as part of my design for an interesting feature. I liked the "Destination Unknown" name on it as that describes my daughter perfectly!

The title runs from the top of the photo to the bottom.

The butterfly, the Polaroid frame, the leaves and the alphas are all from The Dusty Attic. I coated the alphas, the leaves and the butterfly in Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts. I love that grungy, chunky look it adds to my work. I painted the Polaroid frame black and wound metallic thread around parts.

I added Magicals to the background and stamped hearts which I coloured with Silks. I also used Silks to colour the circles behind the photo and along the journalling line.

Holidays!

My apologies for being quiet online lately - we've been on holidays! We went to the amazing Gili Islands, three tiny islands off the coast of Lombok, in Indonesia. We stayed on two of the islands.

Singapore
We had a brief stop in Singapore where I caught up with two Scrap Around The World girls - Jelissa Mei and Priscilla Lim. Unfortunately, I was struck down with a tummy bug - as I was heading to the cafe to meet them! I had a very helpful taxi driver who found convenient locations to stop so I could throw up. For all our planning, it really wasn't much of a catch up which was really disappointing. Still, we did get to meet, even if I couldn't stay for long. Jelissa and Priscilla are such lovely ladies and I hope that next time we meet, we will have much more time!

Oh gosh, I do look pale!

Gili Air
This was the chill-out island. Not much to do but just soak up the sunshine, ride a bicycle around the island and go snorkeling. (I was feeling much better by this stage.) It was heaven. Amazingly, we were thousands of miles from home but happened to bump into one of our son's school teachers! We also met Cande and Arnoud, two other people travelling around. The six of us had a great time!

Sunsets and moonrises were all amazing.

The staff at our accommodation were fantastic.

There were plenty of turtles.

There are no cars or motorbikes allowed on the islands so if you need to carry anything heavy you catch a horse and cart.

Gili Trewangan
This is the party island. It's heaps busier than Gili Air and is full of 20 year old sun-worshippers and party-goers. We stayed away from the main strip though which worked out perfectly.

There's a turtle breeding programme running which is why it's so easy to find turtles nearby.

Every restaurant had a perfect backdrop......

Shopping isn't a high priority on the Gili's but these bracelets were everywhere. I bought one bracelet at each of the three islands (we visited Gili Mena briefly one day).

Ever sunset we watched was with a cocktail in hand, while sitting in a restaurant on the beach. Heaven!

Well that's a brief summary of our wonderful holiday. Expect to see some tropical layouts coming to a website, blog or magazine near you soon!

Some Grungy Fun!

Hello and welcome back to my blog!

I've been creating for Scrappy Chat Designs this week and have come up with a very grungy page. I had a great time playing with the Texture Luxe paste and trying some different things with it. There are papers in the kit from Prima and Kaisercraft, cardstock, some glittery goodies and of course, extra bits and pieces that can really finish off a page.

Here's a sneaky peek:
