Dusty in October

Hello again! I'm back to share a layout I made using the gorgeous Dusty Attic October mood board for my inspiration.

We've had such beautiful weather here lately yet the mood board still inspired me to think about some of my favourite places in the sunshine near the sea. Santorini would have to be at the top of my list!

Here's what I made:

This main chippie is one of my favourites ever! It's called Decorative Scroll #1 and it's so easy to make something special with it. It consists of two pieces - the wider backpiece and the finer front piece. You then layer the front one onto the back one. For this project, I painted the back piece with Silver Dusty Attic paint and the front piece with Mountain Meadow paint. I then coated both with relevant colours of Tinby Designs Metallic Melts. I gave the title and the hearts a similar treatment.

You can just see some different shapes peeping out from behind the scroll. I used Mountain Meadow paint through a Dusty Attic stencil. This was great for adding a bit of extra depth and detail.

I love the way the Hearts chippies can be split into open and closed hearts. That's double the value - awesome!

Here's the mood board. Isn't it beautiful? I was influenced by the sea photo, the circular shape the wave made, the sunset and the colours. I sure hope you can join in this month. Don't forget - you can win $100 worth of chippies!

Here are the Dusty Attic products I used:

Decorative Scroll #1 DA 0213

Word Pack #19 DA 1275

Heart Attack Panel Small #1 DA 1203

Dusty in Colour Paint in Mountain Meadow,
Cashmere, Navajo White and Fine Silver

Fan Stencil DA 1320

An Off The Rails Tutorial

Hello scrappy friends! Today I have a tutorial for Off The Rails to share. I want to show you how to make you own unique watercolour creations. You can use this idea to make scrapbook pages, cards or anything!

Here's my layout:

Step 1

Splatter some black ink onto an A4 sheet of watercolour paper where your work will go.

Step 2

Draw some flowers in freehand. Don't worry of they're not perfect - that's the idea!

Step 3

Use a stencil to draw in some flourishes. You could also hand-draw leaves if you like.

Step 4

Mix some watercolour paint with water and just apply it to the central area of your petals.

Step 5

Mix another watercolour a couple of shades darker with water and fill in the rest of the petals. Try to keep the colours separate at times, although they will tend to mix when they're wet.

Step 6

The end result is a random mix of the two colours giving your petals a realistic multi-hued effect.

I kept my embellishments to a minimum so as not to hide the watercolour work

My layout was based on this month's beautiful mood board. Are you going to enter our challenge this month?

Happy scrappin'!

Clean and Simple Rules!

Hello and welcome back! I have a Dusty Attic layout to share today and this time I have made something VERY different for me! There's no particular reason why this is so different - I just wanted to play with patterned paper for a change.

Don't you just love that flourish under the photo? I wanted to show it off so I cut my patterned paper to suit. Here's how I decorated the flourish, the border and the title. It's really easy but looks fabulous!

Step 1

Add some Dusty Attic texture paste directly to the bare chippy with your finger. Dab it on roughly to create a stippled effect.

Step 2

Colour it with gold ink. This leaves you with a gorgeous textured piece plus the gold ink over the white texture paste creates a stunning pewter colour.

To make those flowers and leaves on the background, I simply applied the gold ink through a Dusty Attic stencil. I love the soft, airbrushed effect.

Here are the Dusty Attic products I used:

Texture Paste DA1218

Flower Burst Stencil DA1323

Ornamental Trim Set DA 1347

Lace Border #3 DA1344

Mini Captions #3 DA 1290

Foliage #3

Thanks so much for dropping in!

Love Life

Hello and welcome back to my blog!

I have a quick and easy layout for you today. This can be made with just a few products.

There is only one piece of patterned paper used on this. I simply tore some off and placed it in the corner, adding a smaller piece in the bottom corner. I drew a few circles by hand then applied texture paste through a stencil and added a few sprays on top. I then added some chippies, most of which I left bare, my photo and journalling. Easy!

My Mood Board for Around The World!

Hello there! It's the first of the month and that means it's Scrap Around The World time! And this month is especially exciting for me as I designed the SATW mood board!

First, I'd like to share my layout.

I love the action and movement in the photo and the layout. The photo was a selfie my daughter took with her friends on top of The Luge on a trip to New Zealand. They look like they're having a blast!

Here's my SATW mood board.

It's not hard to work out which photo I used as my inspiration. I was actually surprised by my choice because when I made the mood board I fell in love with the tree image and assumed I would use that. But, when the time came to create, it was the watercolours that spoke to me. Of course, I also was inspired by the feathers (don't you love the heart shape the wings make?) and the circular elements (I sponged water through a dots stencil to remove some of the colour).

I hope you're not scared off by the bright colours! I wanted to make my mood board inspirational for all tastes. You can choose to ignore the colours completely and instead be inspired by the shapes, the feathers, the textures, the words or anything else that takes your fancy.

The feathers on my layout are from The Dusty Attic and have just been released. I adore them! I used a white paint pen to colour them then used a variety of products to colour the strands of beads. I added coordinating threads in and around the feathers.

I used Tinby Designs Metallic Melts to colour the title. I used silver on the top half and painted the bottom half black. I then added more silver Melts over parts of the black. I'm sure glad that Metallic Melts can be coated again and again because I changed my mind several times making this. There are three different colours under some parts of this title!

Are you going to give my mood board a go this month? I'd LOVE it if you did! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you create!
