Double the Fun with Scrappy Chat Designs

Hello there.

I'm here today with my first layout using Scrappy Chat Design's November "Rustic Goodness" kit. Actually, this isn't just one layout - it's a double!

I like making double page layouts. So often we have multiple photos from one event that we want to scrap and they just won't fit on one page. I could have cut and rearranged my background cardstocks so I had the same colours on both pages but I love the effect of using the same or similar products across two different coloured backgrounds to create one double page.

In this instance, I used the same Media Crackle Paste, stencil and papers, all from the November kit, across the two pages but used the kraft and the white cardstock as the backgrounds. It's interesting to see how the different cardstocks created quite different effects.

This layout could also be recreated as two stand alone pages instead of a double.

For step by step instructions on how I created these pages, and for a few tips and tricks, hop over to the Scrappy Chat Designs blog here.

I love the versatility of this month's kit! As always, there are interesting and unique products and loads of papers. If you'd like to order this kit or any others email orders.scrappychatdesigns@gmail.com.or check out the website here.

Back in Black

Hi and welcome to my little blog again!

I thought I'd show you some layouts I made for an article I wrote for Scrapbooking Memories Magazine. Sadly those of you who don't live in Australia probably miss out on this fantastic magazine. The article was about how to effectively use black backgrounds on your layouts.

Here's the first layout:

I made this page to show how a black background can still be used on a soft, feminine page. I used white stamping, rub-ons and paint to add background details then I highlighted the page with soft pinks. There are lots of Dusty Attic goodies on this one.

My second layout shows how black can accentuate bright, bold colors:

Again, I used white on the background to help elements stand out but this time added bright colours for a strong impact.

Thanks for dropping in.

Happy scrappin'!

Dusty Attic

Hello!

I've been having fun this week channeling my inner grunge queen for this layout for Dusty Attic. Here's what I made:

I find it so easy to use chipboard on projects. It's just so versatile. I thought I'd show you how you can use chippie shapes to create completely new shapes. Those circles are actually viewfinders and the arrows under one of the circles plus the corner frames on the photo are actually arms of crosses.

Here are some closies:

To show you what I mean, here are some of the the products I used to make new shapes:

And here's how I grunged them up:

Step 1
Cut the long arm from a cross and swipe Alabaster Dusty in Colour paint across a few places of the remaining piece with your finger.

Step 2
Randomly ink a few places with a brown stamp.

Step 3
Draw on Gelatos in a few places and rub in with a baby wipe.

Step 4
Add Bronze Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts to random sections.

Step 5
Add Carbon Metallic Melts to other sections.

The finished piece:

To finish off this piece I took a Page Pebble, smudged a bit of Alabaster paint over it with my finger, inked the edge and used a brown pen to make the word stand out more. I then layered it on a View Finder and an Ornate Cross that I had treated in the method above.

I hope you enjoyed this post.

Playing With A 'Charming' Kit!

Hello there,

I have a layout to share with you today that I made using the new "Charming" kit from Scrappy Chat Designs. As usual, this was a fabulous kit, full of interesting and unique products.

My layout is up on the Scrappy Chat Designs blog here. Here's a sneak:

The products in this kit are so cool! I made a butterfly cluster using Sticky Barc, Shimmer Mister and wooden circles and put the gold doily, chipboard and sequins to good use. Technique Sheets detailing how I made these will be sent to members shortly.

I'd love it if you popped over to the Scrappy Chat Designs blog and left a comment if you like what you see.

November Dusty Attic Sketch

Hello again.

I hope you're having a good week. I've managed to get some scrapping done so my week has been good! One of the layouts I made is for the November Dusty Attic sketch. Here is the sketch:

And here's what I created:

Isn't that photo stunning? My mum took it on one of my parents' camping trips to South Australia last year. I'll give this layout to them to keep.

The chippie under the photo is a Swirly Vine #4. To colour it I put some Hot Chocolate Dusty In Colour paint in a mini spray bottle, added water and sprayed the paint on. It's much quicker than hand painting it all. I added a few random sections of Gingernut paint on too. I painted the flowers with Sunburnt Orange and Sunshine paints and added Bronze Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts to the leaves.

To colour the chippie letters I simply inked them then added Metallic Melts.

The background is one I had previously made from stamping the leftovers from stenciling projects onto a piece of cardstock. I love that I can just rummage through my pre-made backgrounds for something to suit a particular photo.

Dusty Attic products used:

Swirly Vine #4 large DA1100

Seagulls DA1042

Geotags DA1088

Bookman ABC Set DA 0666

Page Pebbles #3 DA1107

Mini Spritz Bottle DA0610

Dusty in Colour Paints - Hot Chocolate, Gingernut, Sunburnt Orange and Sunshine.

It's All About The Metallics

Well hello there! I hope you've been having a good week.

I thought I'd share some layouts that I made for Australian Scrapbook Ideas magazine. My commission was to showcase Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts. If you know my work you'll know that I jumped at this one! How perfect was it for me?

Here are two of the layouts I made:

Love This
On this page I used the Metallic Melts on the wire, the buttons, the cardstock heart and the ink splats. To make the large heart at the bottom I just drew it with Glossy Accents then used the Metallic Melts straight on top.

Mr Fix-it
I grunged up all the chipboard pieces on this one using a combination of Metallic Melts colours. It really created a great rusty, antique look.

I hope you caught the magazine - full instructions on how to make these layouts were included.

Scrap Around The World - November

Hello there!

Sorry for the long time between blog posts but we've had no internet here for a week and it's been driving me crazy!

More importantly though, it's the start of the month and there's a new reveal over at Scrap Around The World. The mood board this month has been created by Zuzia Zuziuzha and it's fabulous! Here it is:

I was inspired by the rich burgundy and gold hues plus those gorgeous rose buds. I snuck a bit of music stamping in there too! The photo is of my daughter when she first dyed her hair purple. I love her individual style, hence the title.

I used water colours and stamping on the background. The chipboard is all from The Dusty Attic and I've decorated all the chipboard pieces with Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts. I've put together a few steps to show you what I did.

Step 1
Pour and brush on water colours randomly along the diagonal of the page. Flick some off the brush as well. When dry, lay some metallic thread over the background and glue in place.

Step 2
Spray your background chipboard with a few different colours. I used a section of Dusty Attic's Geometric Panel. Then coat with Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts. Again, I used a range of colours.

Here's a close up of the amazing effects the Metallic Melts produce.

I inked diamonds from the large Dusty Attic Trellis with gold ink then topped them with Gold Nugget Metallic melts. To anchor small pieces like these down so your heat gun doesn't blow them around, just use double sided tape to adhere them to paper. You can then just remove them and place them on your layout.

I also used two colours of Metallic Melts on the title and added a few words of journalling along some of my threads.

I hope you can pop over to the Scrap Around The World site and take a look at the other amazing creations made by the Design Team. I'm looking forward to seeing what you create. Here's what you could win!
