My Last 'Once Upon A Sketch' Entry

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas if that's what you celebrate in your part of the world. It's been a terrific one here.

It's with a somewhat heavy heart that I post my entry for the last ever Once Upon A Sketch challenge, as the site closes down next week. There are no prizes this month but I have enjoyed participating in this challenge blog many times and I wanted to enter one last time.

I also have another reason to enter - the very talented Jelissa Mei and I are doing a layout swap. The page she's giving me is from this month's OUAS challenge so it makes sense that my layout should be for the same challenge.

Here's this month's sketch:

I had to adapt the sketch a bit cos I wanted to use photos of Jelissa and I on opposite sides of the page, symbolising the physical distance between us. Here's what I made:

That background paper is a new Webster's Pages one and has a map of the world on it. I thought it was perfect for showing how we make scrappy friends from all over the world.

I used some Dusty Attic Geotags to show where Jelissa and I live.

The chipboard letters are also from Dusty Attic and I coated all the chipboard with Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts.

I have a new thing about using stitching, paints and beads and I've this technique on this one.

I had quite a story to tell about this layout so I wrote my journaling on the back.

There are still a few days left if you want to enter the very last challenge.

I'd like to thank all my readers for their incredible support throughout 2014. Your comments have been wonderful to receive. I look forward to keeping in touch throughout 2015 and I am excited to be sharing this scrappy adventure with you!

All the best wishes to everyone for a safe, happy and scrappy 2015!

Dusty Attic

Hello all.

Have you got all your Christmas shopping done yet? I reckon it's far more fun to scrap than shop so today I'd like to share with you a layout I made using my stunning new Dusty Attic chipboards. I've gone for a more modern touch on this one.

Those of you who know my work will be reeling in shock that I used purple - and, what's more, I love it! I painted the String Frame with Sugar Plum Dusty in Colour paint then added Royal Purple Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts on top. What a stunning colour combination!

For the "Attitude" title, I painted the top half with Navajo White Dusty in Colour paint and the bottom half with the Sugar Plum. I then added the Royal Purple Metallic Melts over both paint colours to get that graduated effect. I love these new words! I think it's funny that most of the words in this particular pack would traditionally be associated with boys but I think they suit my daughter perfectly!

The gorgeous flowers from Dusty Attic serve two purposes here - of course one purpose is that they just look stunning, but the other is that I used them to hide distracting elements in the photo.

The other letters and the stars are all treated with gold ink and Metallic Melts.

I made the background by simply stamping with the sprayed side of a Kaisercraft stencil, using Heidi Swapp Color Shine. Coincidentally, I found the Dusty Attic stars matched some of the stenciled stars perfectly! I sat the chippie stars on the white star shapes and they looked like they were made to fit.

Don't forget that you can now order your Dusty Attic supplies online here.. There are also gift vouchers available so you might have to drop the odd hint or two to friends and family.

Here are the Dusty Attic products that I used:

String Frame Set DA1181

Stars #3 DA1153

mini Stars DA1040

Word Pack #6 DA1187

mini ABC Set lower DA0862

Dusty in Bloom Celestial White DA0800

Assorted Dusty Roses

Dusty in Colour paints - Navajo White and Sugar Plum

Thanks so much for dropping by today.

Happy scrappin'!

A Dusty Christmas!

Hello there! I'm back today with a bit of Dusty Attic Christmas cheer.

Santa came early to my house and delivered a box of Dusty Attic goodies so I just had to use them straight away. I followed the gorgeous December sketch:

Here's what I created:

I've used a mix of new and older chippies here. I always love the new releases but still go back to older designs as well.

I love the new word packs. I used a combination of letters, a word from a new word pack and numbers to make my title. I coated the letters and numbers with Dusty in Colour paints and the word with Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts.

Isn't the picture my daughter drew for my son amazing?

I layered the chippies up in places. Here I have an Elegant Swirl under a Music stave under a Word Disk. I love that you can see through some of these layers and see the chippies underneath. As before, I have coated them with different Dusty in Colour paints and gold Metallic Melts.

I painted all the notes on the music stave and scattered stars across the page.

The Dusty Attic products I used are:
Elegant Swirl # 13 DA1133

Word Disks #1 DA1195

Music DA0351

Word Pack #7 DA1165

Bookman ABC Set DA0666

mini Number Set DA0863

mini Him & Her DA1064

Stars #3 DA1153

mini Stars DA1040

Dusty in Colour Paints - Denim, Faded Denim, Alabaster and Soot.

Don't forget you can now buy Dusty Attic products online here. (Be warned - it's dangerous looking at this site - there are so many amazing products on here!)

I hope you take some wonderful Christmas shots this year and have just as much fun scrapping them as you did enjoying the Christmas moments.

Happy scrappin'!

Arty Chics

Hello and welcome back to my blog!

I've been playing with the November Scrappy Chat Designs kit and I've ventured beyond my kids with my subject matter this week!

I was inspired by the word on the Crafter's Workshop stencil to create this page.

Here's a sneak:

December Scrap Around The World

Well hello there. It's the start of a new month and that means there's another amazingly yummy mood board up at Scrap Around The World! This one was designed by the incredibly talented Anna Komenda. I'm a big fan of her work so of course I love her mood board! Here it is:

As soon as I saw the colour scheme on this I was reminded of a new release range of papers by Kaisercraft called North Pole so that's what I just had to use. I was also inspired by the cold, wintery theme.

Here's my layout:

I was quite captivated by these red berries hidden under snow on bare trees in Japan. They added such a splash of colour to the otherwise bleak landscape.

On the white cardstock behind the photo I used a number of different products and techniques.

First I stitched irregular lines with silver thread. I then dribbled diluted Dusty Attic paint and let it run then added a few snowflake eyelets. I then ran lines of glue on the same horizontal plane and added a variety of clear beads. The tiny ones that you can barely see are called Frickles are really look like the snow piles in the photo.

I covered some Dusty Attic chipboard letters with silver Beck BT's Tinby Designs Metallic Melts to create the first word of the title and used red Simple Stories letter stickers for 'berries"

I used lots of that silver thread but it was terrible to work with! It kept twisting on itself which made it hard to use in the sewing machine. I do like the effect though!

I hope you're able to join in the challenge at Scrap Around The World this month. You can take a look at some of the amazing work some of the design team members have come up with here.
